A mental health PHP is a structured treatment program for people with mental and behavioral health disorders. Patients in a PHP usually have mental health issues that are severe enough to interfere with their day-to-day activities but who are not at risk of harming themselves or others.
Also known as day treatment, our PHP health treatment runs for several hours a day up to five days a week. Patients spend the majority of the day receiving treatment at our facility before going to work or returning home later in the afternoon or evening. Compared with other outpatient treatment programs, mental health PHPs offer the highest level of care to those who need intensive treatment but are medically stable enough to live at home.
In addition to being medically stable, ideal candidates for a mental health PHP generally have a strong support system at home. They are also highly motivated to stay in treatment and may also be experiencing at least one other co-occurring disorder, such as a substance use disorder.
A PHP mental health program is one of many treatment programs available for those who need help managing and/or recovering from a mental health disorder. Knowing more about what a PHP health treatment is and how it works can empower you to make an informed decision for yourself or a loved one who needs treatment.
